How to keep your preschooler occupied when stuck indoors all day

Posted on 02-02-2017

When it’s far too frosty to play outside, it can be tough to keep your little ones entertained all day long. Here are our top tips for turning your somber snow day into an indoor adventure!

Fireside feast: There’s nothing like a hot plate of comfort food on a cold day. Get a head start on dinner and have your preschooler help out! Baked mac n’ cheese or chicken noodle soup will warm the hearts of your entire family, and your preschooler will enjoy the opportunity to help you out in the kitchen. Bon appétit!

Incorporate education: Even if it’s a snow day or the weekend, your child can continue to learn. A trip to your local science or children’s museum can provide him or her with an exciting, educational experience. Plus, all of that walking will keep your child active! If weather conditions prevent you from leaving the house, reading or crafting together are two activities that are both engaging and enjoyable.

Have a game day: From board games to apps to classics like charades and Simon Says, there are endless ways to stay entertained all day long! Plus, a little friendly competition might help alleviate that “stir crazy” feeling that occurs when stuck inside all day.

Cherish the downtime: When all else fails, remember that it’s okay to step back and take a break from your busy schedule. Cozying up with blankets and hot chocolate is the perfect way to enjoy family time together while resting up for the remainder of your weekly responsibilities.

From sweet treats to story time to Simon Says, any of these snow day ideas are sure to be a hit among your little ones. Stay warm and happy this holiday season by trying one of the above indoor activities!
